Toshiba’s flagship phone of the year TG01 already launched
Japan had a notorious history of saving all high-quality phones inside their own country, but TG01 might be an exception. Named in Japan as T-01A under DoCoMo, Toshiba had already launched the WM6.1 powered TG01 in June. The response was positive (barring there were reports about problems on dialing 011 prefix numbers).
As our earlier report (here), TG01 is the feature phone for the year 2009, with a 4.1″ large WVGA screen (i.e. Wide VGA 800 x 480) fitted in a slim 9.9mm body, this is one of the phone which gives users maximum viewing pleasure. Its Qualcomm 1.0GHz CPU, it runs most programs more smoothly than most Windows Mobile handsets available up-to-date.
We are aware of most tests and reviews online are only concentrated in the fancy functions and completely neglected about the very basic quality of a handset – the telephone function. In history, Toshiba’s phone had appalled users with its horrible reception. Before our team has a chance to try and examine the phone (if possible), we hold completely skpetical on recommending any one from buying one.
For information as of today, the contract price from Orange is 99€, but contract price is never a good price indicator.

Toshiba TG01 – Yet another “iPhone killer”?
*Yawns*.
Toshiba has just unveiled announced their latest flagship – a WM6.1 mobile phone in London with very powerful system configurations.
HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS are a must for any reasonable iPhone killer, and we need no introduction for these.
The eye-catching specifications for TG01 are:
- A giant 4.1 inch screen featuring 800 x 480 resolution.
- Less than 10mm thick, which is thinner than both iPhone and HTC Diamond.
- A 1GHz CPU chipset. To quote SlashGear, TG01 “is the first device to use Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon QSD2850 chipset.”
- A long battery duration capable to sustain multimedia uses as the CPU can regulate its speed. No info on battery capacity yet.
Too bad this very brand is notorious for its poor voice quality, the fundamental function required for proper communicate. If the voice quality is the same as G800/G910, we will continue recommending reader not to buy one.
The rumoured launch date is not earlier than Summer 2009, before that, will it be possible that another brand launched a better phone? Windows Mobile 6.5 might probably be launched by then.
